Vascular Ultrasound Procedures

by Shannon Peron, RDCS, RVT

Transcranial Doppler

Evaluates the blood vessels that supply the brain within the skull using small transducers placed on the face and head.

Carotid Duplex Scan or Carotid Doppler Exam

Evaluates the blood vessels in the neck (Carotid Arteries)
that carry blood to the brain.

Abdominal Vascular Duplex or Abdominal Vascular Doppler

Evaluates the blood vessels that bring blood to and away from the abdominal organs.

Venous Duplex Scan or Venous Doppler Exam

Evaluates the vessels (veins) that carry oxygen-depleted blood to the heart from the arms and legs.

Arterial Duplex Scan or Arterial Doppler Exam

Evaluates the vessels (arteries) that carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the arms and legs.

Arterial Pressures and Waveforms

Ultrasound and doppler are used in conjunction with blood pressure cuffs to evaluate different segments of the arteries of the arms and legs. The blood pressures obtained help to further locate possible areas of blockage within the arteries.
